Job description
A dynamic team is expanding and looking for the right talent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, identify, collect, label, and process laboratory specimens in accordance with standard operating procedures
- Perform routine, specialized, and emergency laboratory investigations accurately and efficiently
- Validate, interpret, and release laboratory results within agreed turnaround times
- Ensure strict adherence to laboratory quality assurance and quality control protocols
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instruments
- Monitor reagent usage, stock levels, and expiry dates; initiate timely re-ordering
- Observe infection prevention, bio-safety, and waste management standards at all times
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, registers, and electronic data systems
- Communicate critical results promptly to clinicians and nursing staff
- Support clinicians in monitoring drug levels, metabolic profiles, and other investigations relevant to psychiatric care
- Participate in internal audits, external quality assessments, and accreditation activities
- Assist in developing, reviewing, and implementing laboratory policies and SOPs
- Supervise interns, students, or junior laboratory staff where applicable
- Participate in multidisciplinary clinical meetings when required
- Ensure confidentiality and ethical handling of patient information
- Participate in continuous professional development and departmental training
- Any other duty as may be assigned
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of laboratory safety, quality management systems, and regulatory compliance
- Good analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently, under pressure, and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- High standards of professionalism, integrity, and patient-focused care
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences
- Registered and licensed by the relevant professional regulatory body
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a clinical laboratory setting (mental health experience is an added advantage)
