Junior Accountant- Supermarket-Nairobi

Role Objective

Our client, a retail chain outlet, is seeking a Junior Accountant to manage the financial aspects of the retail outlet. This role is responsible for daily cash reconciliation, inventory cost analysis, payroll processing, and ensuring tax compliance.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements
• Prepare and file tax returns ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
• Assist in the development of budget and forecast information, providing variance analysis as required
• Manage daily transactions, including invoices, payments, and reconciliation of daily store transactions with bank alignment to reported sales
• Reconcile Point of Sale (POS) reports with actual cash, credit card receipts, and mobile payments
• Prepare and monitor daily bank deposits ensuring they match recorded sales
• Oversee the petty cash fund for minor store expenses and emergency supplies
• Collaborate with floor managers to conduct regular stock-takes and reconcile physical stock with system records
• Identify and report inventory discrepancies and suggest ways to reduce loss
• Manage Accounts Payable by verifying supplier invoices against Goods Received Notes before processing payments
• Prepare monthly Profit & Loss (P&L) statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
• Calculate and file VAT, sales tax, payroll taxes (PAYE), and other statutory obligations
• Assist in creating annual budgets and monthly forecasts for store operations
• Calculate wages, overtime, and commissions for floor staff and cashiers
• Coordinate with internal or external auditors during annual financial reviews
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

• CPA Foundation or CPA 1 certification
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in a retail chain environment
