Deputy Director of Livestock Production

About the Role

Siaya County Government is seeking a Deputy Director of Livestock Production to join our dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to lead and coordinate livestock production initiatives across the county.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate extension activities including field days, field demonstrations, farmer field schools, and farm visits
• Participate in development of public and private sector initiatives
• Prepare technical information on animal production, livestock marketing, range management, apiculture, and ranching
• Promote economic livestock farming practices
• Provide technical resource support for workshops, seminars, and agricultural shows
• Research, develop, and advise on livestock production technologies and techniques
• Develop livestock production programmes and projects
• Prepare agribusiness, ranch, and farm plans
• Establish linkages with research institutions and stakeholders on livestock production matters
• Coordinate conservation and utilization of range resources
• Oversee extension activities and implementation of livestock information management systems
• Coordinate monitoring and evaluation of livestock programmes
• Prepare technical papers and reports for professional forums and symposia
• Participate in formulation of livestock bilateral and multilateral agreements

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum ten (10) years of professional experience, with at least two (2) years at the grade of Principal Livestock Production Officer or above, or in a comparable position in the public service
• Bachelor's Degree in one of the following disciplines from a recognized institution:
  • Animal Science and Production
  • Agribusiness
  • Range Management
  • Natural Resource Management
  • Livestock or Agricultural Economics
  • Dairy Technology
  • Agricultural Education and Extension
• Master's Degree in one of the following disciplines:
  • Animal Science and Production
  • Agribusiness

  • Natural Resource Management
  • Livestock or Agricultural Economics
  • Dairy Technology
