About the Position
The National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) is seeking self-motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Coffee Cupping and Processing Specialist in Kigali, Rwanda.
Job Description
Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Division Manager, the Coffee Cupping and Processing Specialist will be responsible for:
- Supervising a team of cuppers and reporting to the Quality Assurance and Regulatory Division Manager on the performance of sample collection, coding, roasting, cupping, and storage of reference samples
- Ensuring proper documentation of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Division Standard Operating Procedures in collaboration with the Sampling and Coding Officer and Quality Assurance and Control Specialist to prepare cupping laboratories for accreditation and QMS re-certification
- Preparing training programs for coffee cuppers and submitting them for supervisor approval
- Coordinating sample preparations including roasting and grinding, sensory laboratory equipment preventive maintenance, and environmental control of the lab to ensure reliable cupping results
- Conducting professional sensory evaluation (cupping) of coffee samples in line with international protocols
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Biotechnology, Food Science, Chemistry, Agricultural Economics, or Agri-business
- At least one of the following certifications: Q Grader, Q Processing, SCA Sensory Skills – Professional, SCA Green Coffee – Intermediate, or ISO 17025
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience working with coffee post-harvest facilities such as coffee washing stations, warehouses, dry mills, coffee cupping laboratories, and roasting plants
- Proven experience in coffee cupping or quality assurance (preferred)
