Assistant Librarian - Library Studies at Mama Ngina University College (MNUC)

Job Purpose

This position is responsible for the general maintenance of the University College Library and will operate under the guidance of a senior officer.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure smooth and efficient running of library services and maintenance of the library database
• Index and abstract journal articles
• Prepare work plans for junior officers and coordinate their activities
• Prepare departmental quarterly reports
• Supervise charging and discharging of library information resources to users
• Coordinate provision of reference and referral services to library patrons
• Ensure distribution of publishers' catalogues to faculty deans and heads of departments
• Catalogue and classify newly acquired information resources
• Verify bibliographic details of library materials
• Maintain and operate library management systems
• Perform stock editing
• Teach library skills and user education
• Offer ICT services to various categories of users

Required Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Library Studies, Library Science, Information Science, or equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited institution
• Bachelor's Degree in Library Studies, Library Science, Information Science, or equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited institution

Required Experience

• Cumulative service period of six (6) years of relevant work experience
• Minimum three (3) years at the grade of Senior Library Assistant Grade C/D or comparable position

Professional Requirements

• Registration with a relevant professional body
• Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
• Proficiency in computer applications
