## Title: Assistant Director of Library Services

About the Role

Siaya County Government is seeking a qualified Assistant Director of Library Services to support the management and development of library services across the county. This position offers the opportunity to enhance educational and information services to communities throughout the region.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management, general planning, and coordination of activities across all county libraries
  • Coordinate the educational and information needs of communities served
  • Coordinate collection development, stock management, and advisory services
  • Survey and identify potential areas for library establishment and maintain a comprehensive database
  • Liaise with county government entities and stakeholders to mobilize local resources for library development
  • Develop networking and partnership opportunities, securing support from NGOs, private sector, and community organizations for library development
  • Coordinate advisory services, research, budgeting, and projects; participate in development-related forums
  • Supervise and appraise staff performance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Library Studies, Information Science, or a related field from a university recognized in Kenya
  • Minimum five (5) years of continuous work experience post-graduation, with at least three (3) years in Senior Management within a large library setting
  • Management course of at least 4 weeks duration from a recognized institution
  • Valid membership with the Kenya Library Association (KLA) in good standing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field

  • Outstanding leadership and professional competence in library management
  • Strong administrative ability in overall library function management
  • Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
  • Familiarity with Government of Kenya operational procedures
