About Newmont Africa Operations

Newmont's Africa Operations manages two gold mining operations in Ghana:

• Ahafo Mine (located in the Brong-Ahafo region)
• Akyem Mine (located in the Eastern region)

The operations also maintain near-mine exploration and development focus in Ghana to annually replace gold reserves, and early-stage exploration programs in Ethiopia and Morocco.

Africa Operations employs approximately 5,900 employees and contractors, with the majority working at the Ahafo Mine. The company maintains high standards in environmental management, health and safety, and creates value and opportunity for employees, host communities, and shareholders.

Community Development

Both Akyem and Ahafo mines have made significant sustainable community development investments in host communities, including establishing Development Funds at each operational area. Each mine contributes US$1 per ounce of gold sold and 1% of net pre-tax annual profit into its community development fund.
