Disease Control Officer at World Health Organization

About the Organization

The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a Disease Control Officer to support the Disease Prevention and Control programme. This role contributes to the integrated prevention and control of diseases, particularly those posing serious public health problems in Ghana and identified as priority by national authorities and WHO.

Programme Objectives

The Disease Prevention and Control programme aims to:

• Contribute to integrated prevention and control of priority diseases
• Improve and build capacities to implement evidence-based prevention, control, and care interventions
• Support health systems strengthening
• Collaborate with the Government and relevant stakeholders within the Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) framework
• Significantly reduce the burden of malaria and other vector-borne diseases
• Support prevention, control, elimination, and eradication of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs)
• Provide strategic leadership and strengthen the capacity of national programmes to reduce disease burden

Key Responsibilities

Policy & Strategy

• Support the Ministry of Health in the development of Malaria and NTD strategic plans and detailed work plans
• Provide support for Medium Term and End Term reviews of Malaria Strategic Plan
• Support the Ministry of Health in adapting and implementing regional Malaria and NTD policies and guidelines
• Support Vector-Borne Disease Control (VBDC)/Ministry of Health and National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) in disease burden estimation, impact assessment, and progress measurement of VBDC control strategies
• Collaborate with government departments, cross-cutting programmes, bilateral and voluntary agencies to facilitate vector-borne disease promotion and control initiatives

Reporting

The incumbent reports to the WHO Representative and works in close coordination with the technical team in the regional office.
