The College of Basic and Applied Sciences advances the objectives of its constituent units through the following goals:

• Develop world-class scientists to meet national and global developmental needs through quality teaching, learning, research, innovation and extension
• Enhance staff capacity through systematic staff development programmes
• Enhance research capabilities of staff for increased output in teaching and publications
• Develop effective processes for public engagement
• Create a congenial environment for teaching, research and student learning experiences

School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Structure

The School comprises the following departments:

• Department of Chemistry
• Department of Computer Science
• Department of Earth Science
• Department of Mathematics
• Department of Physics
• Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science
• Department of Nutrition and Food Science

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to the School and maintain and promote efficiency and good order in accordance with the University Act and Statutes, Council, Academic Board and School Management Committee policies and procedures
• Ensure that approved programmes and functions of the School are duly carried out
