Position Overview
The World Health Organization (WHO) Office in Ghana is recruiting a National Professional Officer (NPO/CHE) Urban Health to support implementation of climate change, air pollution, and other environmental determinants of health initiatives.
Programme Objectives
This position supports WHO's Interventions for Healthy Environments (IHE) unit within the Department of Public Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Health (PHE). The role implements activities to strengthen the health sector to address health impacts of climate change, respond to air pollution and its sources in different settlements in developing countries, and prevent air pollution-related diseases. This work aligns with WHO resolutions on climate change and health, air pollution health impacts, and the recognized links between health, environment, and climate change.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to government and partners in developing and implementing national programmes addressing environmental risk factors, climate change, and health
- Propose national initiatives, policies, and strategies for implementation through collaboration with national authorities in environmental health, climate change, and health
- Support implementation of multilateral agreements on environment, climate change, and health
- Conduct situational analysis and needs assessments for addressing health and environmental challenges and their linkages
- Ensure adequate technical and strategic support for national development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of joint national action plans
