Position Overview
The Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) is seeking a qualified and competent Ghanaian citizen to fill the position of Secretary General.
Purpose of the Role
The Secretary General reports to the Governing Board of the GRCS and is responsible for implementing the strategic goals and objectives of the organization. The Secretary General operates under the direction and policies established by the Governing Board, including the Ghana Red Cross Statutes and Rules of Procedure.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and visionary leadership for the organization
- Hold full operational responsibility for developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to address emerging humanitarian issues, risks, and opportunities
- Develop and oversee sound management systems based on good corporate governance and best practices to enhance organizational effectiveness and achieve financial sustainability
- Spearhead the implementation of strategic change management processes
- Review organizational performance to ensure effective utilization of physical, financial, and human resources

- Strong leadership, team building, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to deliver the organization's vision for change and create a sense of urgency that motivates staff
- Broad knowledge of disaster management and humanitarian relief issues, trends, and goals at national, regional, and international levels
- Ability to prevent and alleviate human suffering through effective humanitarian action
- Capacity to initiate and manage organizational change
- Ability to recognize and adjust to rapidly changing conditions and align strategies accordingly
