About the Position
The Drug Innovation Group (DIG) is a medicinal chemistry group at the University of Ghana, housed within the Department of Chemistry at the Frank Tortor Building. DIG is part of a fully integrated malaria drug discovery project under the Grand Challenges African Drug Discovery Accelerator (GC-ADDA) program. This consortium comprises eight African institutions with international partners, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and LifeArc.
Job Details
- Position: Postdoctoral Fellow
- Contract Type: Full-time, fixed-term (1 year, renewable for up to 2 additional years)
- Location: Accra, Ghana
- Department: Department of Chemistry, University of Ghana
Research Focus
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct research in synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry. You will utilize data from Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) and biological studies to design and synthesize potential drug leads for malaria and other neglected tropical diseases.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent organic synthesis research
- Supervise MSc and PhD students
- Contribute to drug discovery initiatives within the research group
Required Qualifications
- PhD degree in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry (obtained within the past 5 years)
- Demonstrated ability to carry out independent organic synthesis
- Willingness to supervise graduate students
- Commitment to comply with University of Ghana policies, procedures, and practices for postdoctoral fellows
Salary and Benefits
Remuneration will be provided according to the University of Ghana 2020 salary structure at the Lecturer & Equivalent level.
