About the Role

The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research is seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer to provide operational support for the achievement of the Institute's objectives. In this position, you will work across all stages of product development, from research and design to installation and commissioning, designing, developing, and operating machines and systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical designs for new products
• Develop testing processes and perform testing and validation of mechanical components
• Generate working prototypes for beta testing and customer demonstration
• Perform engineering calculations to support design work
• Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer-aided design software
• Design or redesign mechanical and thermal devices using analysis and computer-aided design to create technical plans
• Develop and test prototypes of designed devices
• Analyse test results and modify designs as needed to meet specifications
• Apply mathematical and materials science principles to design cost-effective equipment modifications that improve safety and reliability
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, vendors, and contractors
• Perform detailed documentation to track project development and design processes
• Plan and supervise the installation of machinery and parts in line with design plans and timescales
• Ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget
• Improve production processes and oversee manufacturing operations
