Health and Safety Officer at Reputable Company

Position Overview

We are seeking a Health and Safety Officer to promote and maintain a safe working environment by developing, implementing, and monitoring effective health and safety policies, procedures, and practices. You will ensure compliance with statutory regulations and company standards across all real estate and construction projects.

Location

Osu, with travel to other project sites throughout Ghana

Reports To

Construction Manager

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identification, and job safety analysis on construction sites
• Recommend preventive and corrective safety measures to reduce workplace hazards
• Participate in the planning of safe systems of work for all projects
• Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and regular safety training for employees, subcontractors, and site visitors
• Promote safety awareness and a positive safety culture across the organization
• Carry out routine site inspections to ensure adherence to safety standards
• Prepare reports on inspection findings, near misses, and accidents, and follow up on corrective actions
• Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Supervisors, and HR to ensure health and safety integration in all operations
• Advise management on safety implications of new projects, designs, and materials
• Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance
• Prepare weekly and monthly health and safety performance reports
• Maintain up-to-date documentation of safety policies, procedures, and compliance certificates

Required Skills & Competencies

• Excellent communication and training skills
• Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations in Ghana
• Practical understanding of construction site operations and risks
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities
