Position Overview

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) invites applications from suitably qualified, result-driven, competent, and dynamic professionals to fill the position of Chief Reporter. This role offers an opportunity to lead journalism efforts and cover significant national news events.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Cover and report on general news events; conduct interviews and investigations for special reports in the national interest
• Pitch story ideas to editors for follow-up coverage
• Research background information for comprehensive and accurate news features and special reports
• Arrange interviews with credible sources for well-researched and investigative stories, news features, and documentaries
• Establish and maintain relationships with individuals who are credible sources of information
• Report on assigned beats such as Law and Order, Peace and Security, Science and Environment, Agriculture, and Parliament on a daily basis
• Generate and develop video, online, and social media content
• Conduct live reports from the scene and undertake special field and investigative assignments
• Rewrite stories from reporters to meet house style and fit time and space requirements
• Investigate and report breaking news, including disasters, crimes, and human-interest stories
• Work to oral and written instructions and established procedures
• Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or Communications
• Minimum five (5) years of working experience as a Journalist
• Current membership in a professional association, such as the Ghana Journalists Association
• Demonstrated ability to generate and develop story ideas
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Understanding of at least one Ghanaian language
• Good understanding of current affairs and capacity to analyze political, economic, and social issues
