Position Overview

The University of Ghana invites applications from current staff members for appointment as Archivists within the University of Ghana Archives. The primary responsibility of an Archivist is to organize, preserve, and make records accessible in support of the University's mandate, mission, and vision.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct records surveys and assessments
• Identify and select potential archival materials
• Prepare retention and disposition schedules
• Prepare archives finding aids and descriptive documentation
• Provide reference services to authorized users
• Educate staff, students, and clients on the value and proper management of records
• Assist in training and supervision of subordinate staff
• Participate in project communication and coordination activities

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be current staff of the University of Ghana at the rank of Senior Administrative Assistant or equivalent
• Hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline
• Possess a Master's degree in Archival Studies or Information Studies from a recognized university
• Have at least two years of relevant professional experience post-Master's degree

Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

• High level of integrity and ability to handle information in a sensitive and confidential manner
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Highly motivated and resourceful approach to work
• Very good information and communication technology (ICT) skills
