About the Role
Bloomberg News is seeking a freelance stringer to cover West African politics, cocoa, and other commodities in the region, based in Abidjan. This position offers the opportunity to break news and deliver some of West Africa's most-read business stories while contributing to Bloomberg's broader coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Cover breaking news on West African politics and commodity supply chain challenges
- Develop and maintain a strong network of sources across the region
- Deliver reporting on cocoa and key drivers of the Ivorian economy and neighboring markets
- Report on debt sales, scoops, and business stories impacting the region
- Collaborate with other reporters and editors to break news and provide comprehensive coverage
- Provide contextual analysis that makes reporting stand out
- Cover the intersection of politics and the business landscape
Required Qualifications
- Experience in communications, commodities research, or journalism
- Demonstrated ability to develop sources and produce memorable journalism
- Good general understanding of the cocoa landscape in Ivory Coast
- Strong writing skills in both French and English
- Keen interest in West Africa with the capacity to move easily across different subjects
- Ability to thrive on breaking news and work as a team player
