Job description
Position Overview
The University of Ghana invites applications from suitably qualified University staff for the position of Accountant within the Finance Directorate, reporting to the Director of Finance.
Job Role
The Accountant will provide operational support to achieve the objectives of the Finance Directorate. Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring proper books of accounts and records are maintained with accurate and timely transaction capture
- Submitting periodic financial reports on actual performance and preparing consolidated accounts for assigned units
- Managing financial system integrity and data integrity at the unit level
- Preparing annual operating budgets and coordinating plans and projections for budget preparation for succeeding years
- Supporting Internal and External Auditors in performing their functions and ensuring action items are completed
- Ensuring unit compliance with University Financial Regulations, Governance Policy, Public Financial Management Act 2016 (Act 921), and related acts, standards, regulations, and policies
- Completing other tasks as assigned by the Director of Finance or representative
Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Current University of Ghana staff member at the grade of Senior Accounting Assistant or above
- University degree with professional qualification in Accountancy (ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or CA)
- Minimum 2 years relevant post-qualification experience
- Working knowledge of accounting software packages
- A second degree in a related discipline is advantageous
