Job description
About the Organization
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is a public-benefit federal enterprise working in more than 100 countries worldwide. We work on behalf of the German Government and support public and private sector clients across a wide variety of areas, including economic development and employment, energy and environment, and peace and security.
Our activities cover three priority areas:
- Energy and Climate – dealing with renewable energy and energy efficiency
- Training and Sustainable Growth for decent jobs
- Peaceful and Inclusive Societies – focusing on good governance
Project Overview
GIZ supports the Covenant of Mayors Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA) initiative through its current implementation phase (Phase IV). This phase aims to significantly scale the initiative's impact by enhancing access to finance for climate-resilient urban infrastructure.
GIZ works in close collaboration with selected CoM SSA cities to strengthen climate-resilient urban planning and to provide targeted technical assistance for infrastructure project preparation. This includes advisory services for financing, private-sector engagement, and the integration of inclusive, participatory planning approaches—particularly in energy transition, urban resilience, and adaptation to climate change.
Through CoM SSA, local authorities across Sub-Saharan Africa make voluntary political commitments to implement climate and energy strategies aligned with long-term goals for climate change mitigation, adaptation, and equitable access to sustainable energy.
Role Overview
The Technical Advisor will support the development and implementation of technically sound, finance-ready infrastructure projects, with a focus on energy systems, sustainable mobility, and smart solutions.
