Position Overview

The School Nurse plays a vital role in supporting student learning by implementing strategies that promote the health and safety of students and staff. This position requires strong skills in critical thinking, decision-making, communication, individual and classroom education, and child advocacy.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care and manage all medical emergencies for students and staff
• Administer daily and as-needed medications as prescribed by students' physicians
• Promote healthy habits among students through individual and group health education in classrooms and at school assemblies
• Screen medical records to identify, assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate student health concerns impacting education
• Update and review students' medical records quarterly regarding immunization, food allergies, and other health issues
• Encourage parental involvement in addressing children's health concerns and support students and families in achieving optimal quality of life
• Assess mental health needs of students, provide interventions, and refer to appropriate school staff or community agencies
• Maintain a healthy and safe school environment by identifying and addressing health and safety concerns
• Control infection among students through community education on healthy practices and early identification of illness
• Refer students, staff, and families to appropriate community health agencies and coordinate appointments when needed
• Educate staff on health issues and assist in CPR and First Aid training during workshops
