National Long-Term Advisor (NTLE) Agronomist (Legumes) at Agriculture & Finance Consultants (AFC)

Background

The Market-Oriented Agriculture Programme in the North-West of Ghana (MOAP-NW) is part of the EU Ghana Agriculture Programme (EU-GAP) and is embedded in the GIZ "Sustainable Employment through Agribusiness (AgriBiz) Programme".

MOAP-NW is implemented in 14 districts across the Upper West, Savannah, and North-East regions in close collaboration with regional and district departments of Agriculture. The programme supports 7 value chains, including groundnut and soya, with the objective of improving the quality of agricultural produce and strengthening the competitiveness of value chains.

Position Overview

The National Long-Term Legumes Agronomist will be part of the technical team based in Wa, working closely with the Cereals Agronomist colleague. You will manage all activities impacting legume production, aggregation, processing, and marketing, with close interaction with other EU-GAP components.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and promote good agricultural practices for legume production
• Develop competency-based training curricula and training materials
• Coordinate training of extension agents and supervise training of trainers
• Train agricultural advisors of large offtakers (processors and exporters)
• Design demonstration and learning fields and analyse performance data
• Maintain an information database on legume sector developments
• Record data for the M&E System and contribute to quarterly and annual reports

Qualifications & Experience Required

• B.Sc. minimum in Agriculture, Agricultural Technology, or Agricultural Sciences (M.Sc. desirable)
• Minimum 5 years professional experience in agricultural sector development
• At least 3 years experience in a relevant field
