Mechanical Technician at TAQA Ghana

Job Summary

TAQA Ghana is seeking a Mechanical Technician to support maintenance and repair operations of mechanical equipment in power generation facilities. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, safety awareness, and the ability to work independently or with a team to ensure equipment reliability and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Comply with health and safety policies and procedures; demonstrate safety awareness by reporting safety observations and near misses
• Inspect and repair valves (all pressures), compressors, fans, blowers, heat exchangers, pumps, piping, turbines, gearboxes, conveyor equipment, mobile equipment, and similar equipment used in steam and electricity generation
• Perform semi-skilled cutting and welding operations as required (non-certified work)
• Maintain parts inventory and track equipment using MAXIMO CMMS
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment, including cleaning, adjusting, tightening, and lubricating
• Write, submit, and clear corrective work orders for approval
• Assemble and test basic and complex power plant mechanical equipment using assembly drawings
• Install new mechanical equipment as required
• Disassemble mechanical equipment using cranes, hoists, hand tools, and power tools to remove inoperative parts
• Prepare documentation including method statements, risk assessments, and work orders for planned and unplanned maintenance
• Monitor mechanical equipment during operation and identify complications through careful observation

Required Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency with dial indicators and precision measuring devices (micrometers, calipers, rules)
• Knowledge of rigging and lifting principles
• Competency in using hand and power tools
• Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings
• Experience with MAXIMO CMMS or similar maintenance management systems
• Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude
