Position Overview
The IT Security & Planning (Network and Security Engineer) role reports to the Deputy Chief Information Technology Officer (IT Planning, Security and Support) and is responsible for planning and implementation of IT Policies, Strategies, and security initiatives for the University of Ghana. This position works collaboratively with colleagues in Networks and Systems teams to architect appropriate technological, procedural, and educational/training security practices that result in an appropriate level of IT security across University of Ghana campuses.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the development and implementation of IT Policies, strategies, and security standards, and ensure their dissemination to the UG community
- Enforce compliance of IT policies and standards across the organization
- Provide leadership and coordinate infrastructure and application changes after approval, including updates, upgrades, and patches, while evaluating risks before implementation in partnership with application owners
- Lead vulnerability scanning and threat monitoring (internal and external) across the University community
- Perform bi-annual audits and security assessments to ensure benchmarks and other standards are adhered to
- Monitor and review logs to identify trends on the network and proactively manage threats in collaboration with other team leads to ensure stability
- Lead in creating and maintaining an asset register and work with security management to indicate appropriate risk levels for each asset
- Lead infrastructure security initiatives and improvements
