Organization Overview
The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) is an intergovernmental organization serving as a leading academic and trans-disciplinary research institution. WASCAL provides science-based advice to policymakers across West Africa on climate change adaptation, land use, and management. The organization cooperates with nearly all ECOWAS countries and partners with numerous agencies and universities throughout the region, establishing itself as a knowledge platform of excellence.
Position Overview
WASCAL seeks an Executive Director to provide intellectual leadership in the West Africa region for integrated research and capacity building addressing social, economic, and environmental themes related to sustainable development and climate change issues.
Job Purpose
The Executive Director shall provide intellectual leadership for integrated research on social, economic, biological, agricultural, and physical themes addressing climate change issues central to West Africa's development. The Executive Director will be responsible for successful leadership and management of the organization in accordance with the strategic direction set by the Governing Board and Funders.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Implement the vision and mission of WASCAL
- Implement the Governing Board's decisions on all aspects of the organization's activities
- Develop, under the guidance of the Governing Board, the necessary strategic plans for WASCAL
- Identify, assess, and inform the Governing Board of internal and external issues affecting the organization
- Foster effective teamwork between the Governing Board and the Office of the Executive Director
