## Title: Director, Conservation and Research Programmes

Position Overview

Ghana Wildlife Society (GWS) is seeking a Director of Conservation and Research Programmes to lead the development, coordination, supervision, and implementation of the organization's biodiversity research and conservation initiatives. This role is based at the Conservation Education Centre in Accra and reports directly to the Executive Director.

  • Employment Type: Full-Time
  • Contract Duration: One year (renewable based on performance)
  • Reports To: Executive Director
  • Supervises: Programme Managers (KBAs/IBAs, Migratory Birds and Flyways, and others)

Job Purpose

You will be responsible for developing, coordinating, supervising, and implementing the Society's biodiversity research and conservation programmes. Your work will encompass fundraising, project management, identification, planning, and execution of mission-oriented scientific research on biodiversity conservation issues.

Primary Responsibilities

Conservation Science

  • Define a vision and strategy for the development of the Society's conservation programme portfolio
  • Identify priority biodiversity conservation issues in Ghana that require the Society's focus in the immediate future
  • Support implementation of research activities to improve knowledge on the distribution, trends, population, and status of threatened species for selected taxonomic groups in Ghana
  • Supervise commissioned surveys and studies, working closely with consultants and researchers at relevant sites
  • Produce technical papers and research publications
  • Spearhead and collaborate with national stakeholders in the identification, mapping, and monitoring of Key Biodiversity Areas in Ghana

Project Management

  • Provide line management to project staff through goal and target setting, continuous performance management, annual appraisals, capacity strengthening, and personal development planning
  • Ensure efficient and effective delivery of projects
  • Coordinate and manage project input from relevant technical and operational teams
