## Title: Director, Conservation and Research Programmes

Position Overview

Ghana Wildlife Society (GWS) seeks a Director of Conservation and Research Programmes to lead the development, coordination, supervision, and implementation of the Society's biodiversity research and conservation initiatives. The successful candidate will drive mission-oriented scientific research, manage conservation projects, and advance knowledge on critical biodiversity conservation issues in Ghana.

Position Details

  • Duty Post: Conservation Education Centre, Accra, Ghana
  • Reports to: Executive Director
  • Supervises: Programme Managers (KBAs/IBAs, Migratory Birds and Flyways, etc.)
  • Employment Type: Full-Time
  • Contract Duration: One year (renewable based on performance)

Key Responsibilities

Conservation Science

  • Define vision and strategy for the development of the Society's conservation programme portfolio
  • Identify priority biodiversity conservation issues in Ghana requiring immediate focus
  • Support implementation of research activities to improve knowledge on distribution, trends, population, and status of threatened species for selected taxonomic groups
  • Supervise commissioned surveys and studies; work closely with consultants and researchers at relevant sites
  • Produce technical papers and research publications
  • Spearhead and collaborate with national stakeholders in the identification, mapping, and monitoring of Key Biodiversity Areas in Ghana

Project Management

  • Provide line management to project staff through goal and target setting, performance management, annual appraisals, capacity strengthening, and personal development planning
  • Coordinate and manage project input from relevant technical and operational teams
  • Oversee fundraising and project management initiatives
