Position Overview
The World Health Organization (WHO) Office in Ghana is recruiting a National Professional Officer (NPO/CHE) for Urban Health to support the implementation of climate change, air pollution, and environmental determinants of health initiatives.
Programme Context
This position supports WHO's Interventions for Healthy Environments (IHE) unit within the Department of Public Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Health (PHE). The role implements activities to strengthen the health sector's response to climate change impacts, air pollution in various settlements, and related environmental health challenges in developing countries as a key measure to prevent air pollution-related diseases.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Serve as a technical resource to government and partner organizations
- Develop and implement national programmes to promote environmental health objectives and targets
- Support identification and management of environmental risk factors affecting human health
- Propose national initiatives, policies, and strategies addressing environmental health, climate change, and health linkages
- Collaborate with national authorities on implementation through multilateral agreements
Strategic Planning and Analysis
- Undertake situational analysis and needs assessments for health and environmental challenges
- Ensure adequate technical and strategic support for national development
- Support the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of joint national action plans
