About the Institution
The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) is a specialized public higher educational institution dedicated to the creative and media arts. Established by Act of Parliament, UniMAC comprises three constituent institutes: the Institute of Journalism, Institute of Languages, and Institute of Film and Television.
Position Overview
Title: Rector, Institute of Journalism
Reports to: Vice-Chancellor, UniMAC
Location: Accra, Ghana
Employment Type: Full-Time
Role Description
The Rector serves as the administrative and academic head of the Institute of Journalism, providing strategic leadership and ensuring the Institute operates efficiently and maintains high standards of academic excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to the Institute of Journalism while maintaining and promoting its efficiency and good order in accordance with institutional policies, procedures, and regulations set by the Act, Statutes, University Council, Academic Board, Executive Management Board, and Institute Board
- Exercise general authority over students in the Institute of Journalism
- Exercise general administrative supervision over staff in the Institute of Journalism
- Coordinate and implement academic programmes for the Institute of Journalism
- Advise the Institute Board and University Council (through the Vice-Chancellor) on all issues relating to Institute management
- Oversee preparation of annual income and expenditure estimates
- Manage the budget and resources of the Institute of Journalism
- Ensure implementation of decisions made by the University Council
