About the Organization
The Drug Innovation Group (DIG) is a medicinal chemistry group at the University of Ghana, located in the Frank Tortor Building at the Department of Chemistry. DIG is part of a fully integrated malaria drug discovery project under the Grand Challenges African Drug Discovery Accelerator (GC-ADDA) program, comprising eight African institutions with many international partners, funded by major global health organizations.
Position Overview
DIG is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Fellow on a 1-year fixed contract, renewable for a further two years.
Research Focus
The research focus for this postdoctoral fellowship is synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry. The successful candidate will utilize data from Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) and biological studies to design and synthesize potential drug leads for malaria and other neglected tropical diseases.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent organic synthesis research
- Supervise MSc and PhD students
- Collaborate on drug discovery and development projects
- Comply with University policies, procedures, and practices for postdoctoral fellows
Required Qualifications & Experience
- PhD degree in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry achieved within the past 5 years
- Ability to carry out independent organic synthesis
- Willingness to supervise MSc and PhD students
- Commitment to compliance with University approved policies and procedures
Compensation
The successful applicant shall be paid according to the University of Ghana salary structure at the Lecturer & Equivalent level.
