Job Summary
A construction laboratory technician is responsible for performing laboratory tests and inspections on construction materials, ensuring their quality and compliance with industry standards and project requirements. This role plays a vital part in preventing defects, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to the successful completion of construction projects by providing accurate data and recommendations to maintain construction quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct laboratory tests on construction materials including concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates to assess their properties and quality
- Perform specialized testing and analyses on collected samples using specialized equipment and instruments, including compression tests, slump tests, moisture content tests, and sieve analysis
- Collect samples of construction materials from job sites according to established procedures, ensuring proper labelling and documentation
- Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and external laboratories to coordinate sample collection and testing schedules
- Verify that construction materials meet industry standards and project specifications
- Effectively communicate test results, recommendations, and any issues to relevant stakeholders
- Maintain laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results
- Report any equipment malfunctions or repair needs promptly
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
