Jumbo Operator / Trainer at Underground Mining Alliance

About the Role

Underground Mining Alliance is seeking an experienced Jumbo Operator and Trainer for a full-time position in Accra, Ghana. This role combines hands-on drilling operations with technical training responsibilities for national employees in an underground hard rock mining environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide support and guidance in completing pre and post operational checks on Jumbo Drill Rigs and drill sites according to established procedures
• Deliver onsite technical training and guidance to national employees on drilling support holes and installing welded mesh
• Provide support and guidance in drilling and bolting of incline and mass excavation
• Set up and operate drills and drilling machines to produce a designed pattern of blasting holes
• Guide national employees in following job procedures and regulations while operating excavating equipment safely and efficiently
• Conduct face management activities including marking of holes, washing down, barring down, and service extension
• Assess ground conditions at the face and implement ground control measures according to site requirements
• Set standards and manage project planning
• Train national employees to read and follow mining instruction plans accurately, ensuring holes are drilled to design line, gradient, and profile specifications
• Ensure all equipment is adequately supplied with operating materials throughout each shift
• Comply with relevant minerals and mining regulations including health, safety and technician requirements (LI 2182) and other statutory requirements for underground operations

Qualifications & Experience Required

• Minimum WASSCE qualification
• 8 to 12 years of frontline Jumbo operation experience
• Sandvik equipment experience
• Previous experience working in hard rock underground mines with international underground mining experience
• Valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (Classes C and E)
• Ability to drive manual SUVs underground
