Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA) — Headquartered in Addis Ababa, with regional offices in Adama, Hawassa, Bahir Dar, Gambella, Assosa, Jigjiga, Semera, and Dire Dawa. The organization has established 57 volunteer committee centers across the country and operates a multilingual hotline service (7711) in Amharic, Afan Oromo, and Tigrigna.
Project Overview
This consultancy is part of the project "Enhanced Awareness of Targeted Vulnerable Women Regarding Their Rights and the Legal Process and Increased Access to Proper Legal Assistance and Representation for Targeted Groups" (February 2025 – May 2026), implemented with financial support from UNODC.
The project aims to enhance equitable access to justice and raise awareness within the criminal justice systems of:
- Federal administrations: Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa City
- Regional states: Benishangul and Amhara
Scope of Work
Provide psychosocial support and trauma healing training for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Amhara and Benishangul Gumuz regions.
Expected Impact
This initiative will create a network of informed community members who can effectively support one another in overcoming trauma. By implementing comprehensive psychosocial support and trauma healing training, the program will:
- Enhance individual resilience among displaced populations
- Foster community solidarity and mutual support
- Contribute to the overall well-being of displaced persons
- Empower marginalized groups, including the poor, women, and other vulnerable populations through improved access to legal aid support services
