About HelpAge Ethiopia
HelpAge Ethiopia is a national non-profit organization based in Addis Ababa, dedicated to ensuring that older people in Ethiopia live dignified, healthy, and secure lives. In November 2025, after 30 years as HelpAge International's country office, it transitioned into an independent national entity strengthening locally led action on ageing and aligning with Ethiopian priorities.
The organization supports older people, particularly those who are destitute and disadvantaged, through programs focused on:
- Income security
- Social care
- Inclusive health and wellbeing
- Humanitarian response
- Resilience building
HelpAge also delivers humanitarian and development interventions for vulnerable groups, including host communities, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and refugees.
Project Overview
Project Title: "Everyone Deserves the Chance for a Secure Future – Promoting Inclusive and Forward-Looking Agriculture in Oromia, Ethiopia"
Project Donor: German Government (BMZ), through HelpAge Deutschland (HAD)
Project Implementer: HelpAge International - Ethiopia Program, in partnership with:
- Rift Valley Children & Women Development Organization (RCWDO)
- SOS Sahel (SOS)
Implementation Period: December 2022 onwards
Geographic Focus: East Bale and Borena Zones of Oromia Region, Ethiopia
The project targets crisis-affected communities in these zones, addressing drought and conflict-related vulnerabilities through inclusive and forward-looking agricultural interventions.
Evaluation Scope
Following HelpAge's Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) procedures and donor compliance requirements, an independent external terminal evaluation and feasibility study will be conducted upon project completion.
