Automation Engineer - Repi Soap & Detergent PLC, Addis-Abeba

About the Role

Repi Soap & Detergent PLC is seeking an Automation Engineer to join our team in Addis-Abeba, Ethiopia. This is a critical role responsible for maintaining and optimizing our automation, instrumentation, and electrical systems across production operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed equipment performance analyses and support quality teams to minimize extract losses
• Extract and analyze automation, instrumentation, and electrical data
• Provide 24/7 corrective maintenance support alongside the maintenance team, including evaluation, troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer
• Manage software modifications, backups, parameter registration, and version control
• Oversee software licenses and versions
• Prepare, engineer, execute, and evaluate required software and automation modifications
• Participate in TPM and maintenance teams to reduce breakdowns and short-stops
• Develop maintenance SOPs, procedures, policies, and master plans for automation, instrumentation, and electrical systems
• Organize third-party services for automation, instrumentation, and electrical support (including teleservice and emergency support)
• Support production teams in translating technical requirements for new product and recipe developments
• Implement changes via system modifications
• Create safe working environments and ensure 5S compliance during all maintenance activities
• Support the E&I Maintenance Unit Head in preparing training needs analyses and developing training plans
• Monitor training effectiveness and delivery of expected results
• Support development of automation and electrical contingency plans (including obsolescence management)
• Audit and ensure electrical process safety management implementation on site
• Ensure all electrical and instrumentation standards are implemented on site
• Line technicians support during second-line activities to ensure capability and knowledge transfer
• Develop troubleshooting process flows for common problems
• Provide specialized support on high-skill tasks beyond line technician capability
• Train and assess shift technicians and automation technicians on automation and electrical issue resolution
• Provide call-out support as necessary
