Senior Import officer

Job Summary

Misrak Food Complex PLC is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Import Officer to manage and oversee all import operations for raw materials, packaging materials, machinery, and other supplies required for food production. The role ensures timely, cost-effective, and compliant importation in line with regulatory requirements and company policies.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of international trade regulations, customs procedures, and logistics coordination within the food manufacturing sector.

Key Responsibilities

Import Operations Management

• Oversee end-to-end import processes from order confirmation to final delivery
• Coordinate with international suppliers, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and clearing agents
• Ensure timely shipment tracking and proactive resolution of delays

Regulatory & Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with customs regulations, import laws, and food safety standards
• Prepare and verify import documentation including:
  • Bill of Lading / Airway Bill
  • Commercial Invoice
  • Packing List
  • Certificate of Origin
  • Insurance Certificates
• Liaise with regulatory bodies such as:
  • Customs Authority
  • Food & Drug regulatory authorities
  • Port authorities

Documentation & Cost Control

• Monitor and verify import-related costs including freight, insurance, duties, and taxes
• Ensure accurate documentation for duty exemptions or preferential trade agreements
• Maintain updated records of import transactions

Supplier & Stakeholder Coordination

• Work closely with Procurement, Finance, Production, and Warehouse departments
• Build strong relationships with international suppliers and logistics partners
• Negotiate freight and clearing charges when necessary

Risk Management

• Identify potential risks in import operations and implement mitigation strategies
• Ensure proper insurance coverage for shipments
• Handle disputes, claims, and shipment discrepancies efficiently

Reporting & Performance Monitoring

• Prepare periodic import status and cost reports
