EGC GEMS is an Addis Ababa-based gemstone laboratory and vocational training center. We test gemstones and train professionals across the Ethiopian gemstone sector — including miners, traders, lapidarists, jewellers, and public institutions. Our work supports value addition, professionalism, and long-term capacity building in Ethiopia's gemstone industry.

Our laboratory work is practical, hands-on, and disciplined. We operate under real-world constraints: mixed sample quality, tight timelines, evolving procedures, and continuous learning. Accuracy, consistency, and professional judgment matter more than abstract knowledge.

The Role

This is a hands-on laboratory position for someone at the beginning of their professional career who wants to build real technical competence in gemstone testing. You will work directly with gemstones, instruments, standard operating procedures, and senior staff. Over time, you will take on increasing responsibility for assessments, documentation, and process improvement.

Main Responsibilities

• Perform gemstone examinations to assess authenticity, identity, and key characteristics, following defined standard operating procedures
• Work with extreme care and consistency under time pressure and practical constraints
• Document observations, results, and uncertainties clearly and accurately
• Support the development, refinement, and documentation of laboratory standard operating procedures
• Participate in routine care and maintenance of laboratory equipment and workspaces
• Contribute to building institutional knowledge through documentation, internal discussions, and learning from cases
• Engage actively in internal training and skill development
