Journalist & Communications Officer

Position Overview

Reporting to the Country Representative & Director, you will serve as the eyes, ears, and narrative voice of the organization on the ground, producing compelling content on project progress while promoting and advocating for the rights of vulnerable groups in the community.

Position Details

• Duty Station: Addis Ababa
• Work Location: Social office-based with frequent travel to project sites
• Contract Type: Full-time

Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to proactively travel to field locations and project sites to directly observe, document, and collect stories about project progress. By leveraging professional journalism skills and excellence in social media, you will transform field observations into compelling, timely, and accurate multi-format content (reports, social media posts, briefs) that amplifies project achievements, highlights community impacts, ensures accountability to stakeholders, and maintains dynamic public engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Field Observation & Information Collection

• Travel frequently to assigned field locations and Addis Ababa project sites according to the work plan
• Conduct direct observation of project activities, implementation progress, and ground-level realities
• Create linkages and collaborate with government media for joint engagement in advocacy and promotion
• Collect information through interviews with project leaders, beneficiaries, community members, field staff, local authorities, and project partners
• Gather human-interest stories, testimonials, and case studies that illustrate project impact
• Document field activities through high-quality photography and videography using professional equipment (with participant consent)
• Verify information and data collected in the field for accuracy and context
• Work closely with project staff to accomplish assigned duties
