About EGC GEMS

EGC GEMS is an Addis Ababa-based gemstone laboratory and vocational training center. We provide gemstone testing and professional training for miners, traders, lapidarists, jewellers, and public institutions. Our mission is to support value addition and long-term capacity building in Ethiopia's gemstone sector.

The Role

We are hiring a Gemology Vocational Trainer who will co-deliver practical, hands-on training to adult participants and grow into increasing technical and pedagogical responsibility over time.

Training is delivered in English to small groups and combines classroom instruction with workshop practice (e.g. gemstone cutting and polishing). This role is suitable for candidates who want to develop into a professional vocational trainer, not just deliver occasional courses.

Key Responsibilities

• Co-deliver gemology and technical training to adult learners
• Facilitate interactive sessions and Q&A
• Guide participants during practical workshop activities
• Use and adapt existing training materials
• Support participants in developing self-learning skills
• Work as part of a trainer team and contribute to shared outcomes

Development Path

• Initial phase: Co-delivery of defined training modules, facilitation, and learning adult training methods
• Advanced phase: Independent module delivery, stronger technical explanations, and material improvement
• Senior phase: Curriculum development, mentoring of junior trainers, and methodological leadership

Progression is based on demonstrated competence.

Requirements

• Early career to experienced level
• Formal gemstone experience is not required—training will be provided
