Job Opportunity : Consultant, Capacity Strengthening

Position Overview

WWF Cameroon is seeking a consultant to conduct capacity strengthening activities for cocoa and non-timber forest product (NTFP) producer cooperatives in the Yokadouma area of East Cameroon.

Contract Details

• Contract Duration: 120 days (ideally between February 15th and September 15th)
• Contract Type: Service provision
• Location: Yokadouma municipality (around Ngatto nouveau village)
• Scope: 3 cooperatives (2 cocoa cooperatives and 1 NTFP cooperative)
• Project: RESPONSE

Context and Justification

Growing demand for cocoa products and favourable agro-climatic conditions in the region are driving the expansion of cocoa farming in the Congo Basin. However, this expansion threatens accelerated biodiversity loss, as producers convert forests to expand their farms in search of new income sources.

This forest conversion is further exacerbated by climate change, which reduces the forest's capacity to provide ecosystem products and services. This ultimately impacts the livelihoods and well-being of local communities and threatens forest wildlife survival.

Additionally, volatile cocoa market prices, lack of infrastructure, technical knowledge, and limited management capacity can keep producers in poverty despite farm expansion, which comes at the expense of forests.

To prevent deforestation and strengthen regional resilience to climate change, it is crucial to rehabilitate cocoa farms into more diversified and higher-quality farming systems and to access economically responsible markets that comply with global regulations.
