INTERSOS is a non-profit humanitarian aid organization that works to bring assistance to people in danger, victims of natural disasters and armed conflicts. INTERSOS has a consolidated presence in the region (Niger, Nigeria, and Cameroon) with a multi-sector program focused on humanitarian assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and mixed migrants located in urban and rural areas.

Position Overview

The Emergency Coordinator supports and collaborates with the Head of Mission, ensuring coordination and follow-up of the emergency programme with particular focus on humanitarian response in five regions where humanitarian disaster has been declared. The incumbent will ensure overall strategic planning, setup, and management of emergency intervention in crisis-affected areas, engage in proposal development, and conduct direct discussions and negotiations with relevant donors.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Head of Mission in coordinating and monitoring emergency programmes
• Oversee strategic planning and management of emergency interventions in affected regions
• Coordinate humanitarian response across five crisis-affected regions
• Develop proposals and engage in donor negotiations
• Strengthen basic services in protection and primary health sectors for vulnerable populations
• Provide support to women and children at risk of violence and abuse through educational, recreational, and psychological services

Position Details

• Duty Station: Ouagadougou, with frequent travel to field locations (East, North, Centre-North, Boucle du Mohoun, Sahel regions)
• Contract Duration: 6 months
• Reporting to: Head of Mission

Program Context

INTERSOS is establishing its presence in Burkina Faso with a focus on protection and primary health sectors, aiming to strengthen basic services for vulnerable populations in areas most affected by the recent crisis. The organization prioritizes assistance to IDPs and mixed migrants with particular attention to the most vulnerable populations.
