The company has 25 years of experience in the production and commercialization of high-quality agricultural seed such as cereals and pulses, as well as the distributor of East West International hybrid vegetables seeds. NASECO has its head office in Kampala and production plant in Nalweyo Kakumiro district. Job Title: Logistics and Fleet Engineer Reports to: Production Manager Supervises: Truck Drivers/mechanics Job Purpose Oversee fleet operations, inspections, maintenance, safety, compliance, administration, supervision, and efficiency to support reliable seed transport from production sites to markets. Ensures trucks handle heavy loads safely and cost-effectively, integrating mechanical engineering with logistics coordination. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Logistics & Fleet Power (Trucks) Operational Command: Plan routes, monitor real-time GPS tracking, and manage seasonal peaks for our seed transport fleet. Maintenance Mastery: Oversee pre/post-trip inspections and implement a rigorous preventive maintenance schedule (diagnostics, brakes, tyres). Technical Design and planning: Improve loading/offloading processes, modify vehicle loads for equipment haulage, seed transport and optimize axle loads for regulatory compliance (UNRA/Traffic Laws). Resource Control: Manage the “Big Three” of logistics: Fuel (efficiency tracking), Tyres (life-cycle analysis), and Spares (inventory management). 2. Agricultural Mechanization (Tractors & Harvesters) Ready for Season: Ensure tractors, planters, and combine harvesters are 100% operational before the first rain hits. Field Support: Execute rapid-response diagnostics during planting and harvest to minimize field downtime. Operator Excellence: Train and supervise tractor operators on daily fluid checks and safe tillage practices. 3. Workshop Leadership & Strategy The Hub: Manage our central workshop, automating workflows and installing a job-card system for total accountability. Technical Supervision: Lead internal mechanics and manage specialist external vendors for high-tech repairs (injection pumps/electronics). Financial Intelligence: Prepare and defend the annual maintenance budget; conduct Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis for new fleet acquisitions. Minimum Job Requirements Qualifications and Experience Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Experience: Minimum 3 years in fleet management, transport, or logistics (agricultural/heavy vehicles preferred). Competencies: Computer/fleet software proficiency, Strong supervisory, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, Time management, attention to detail, integrity; ability to work under pressure/extended hours. Knowledge Requirements: HSE and OSH laws; cost control/budgeting, Ugandan transport regulations, weighbridge operations and Valid Class B/CE driving license for heavy commercial vehicles.
