IT Support Assistant

About the Role

A dynamic team is expanding and looking for the right talent. As an IT Support Assistant at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), you will provide essential software and hardware support for the organization's computer systems while maintaining a responsive and service-oriented approach to end-user IT issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide software and hardware support for all of IITA's computer systems
• Support end-users with IT-related problems in a responsive and service-oriented manner
• Assist in development and maintenance of WLAN networks (satellite, fiber, radios, internet, etc.)
• Set up, manage, and maintain IT-related equipment
• Monitor backup jobs and ensure high levels of completion success rates
• Help establish and maintain processes for a stable network environment
• Troubleshoot, install, and implement IT systems
• Develop and monitor performance levels of software and hardware, evaluating and recommending alternative methods of information processing
• Maintain and improve network intrusion security and antivirus protection procedures to ensure a secure, virus-free networking environment
• Maintain hardware and software maintenance agreements to ensure operational integrity
• Maintain a comprehensive and functional inventory of IITA IT equipment (hardware and software)
• Liaise with IT support staff at other IITA sites within the East and Southern Africa region and headquarters
• Disseminate specific procedures manuals for operating routines and network management tasks
• Implement IT policies, procedures, and standards
• Provide support during meetings, workshops, and virtual sessions (e.g., setting up projectors, video conferencing tools)
• Coordinate with external service providers for IT-related services
