Job Description

A reputable public institution is seeking to recruit a highly qualified, experienced and results-oriented professional for the position of Director, Vaccine Research and Development (VR&D)

Job Purpose

•To provide leadership, technical and administrative direction within a reputable public institution to ensure the effective and efficient performance of vaccine research and development functions of the organisation

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to:

•Provide technical input for the formulation and review of policies relating to vaccine research and development

•Lead the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programmes and activities of the Directorate

•Ensure the efficient and effective management of the human, material and financial resources of the Directorate

•Oversee the review of proposals for the conduct of vaccine research and development.

•Collaborate with academia, research institutions and other partners both locally and internationally for domestic vaccines and sem research and development

•Lead the technology transfer of domestically developed vaccine and sem to local mnafacturers

•Coordinate human resource capacity-building initiatives for vaccine research and development in collaboration with academia and research institutions.

•Collaborate with researchers on the publication and dissemination of research findings and clinical trial results relating to domestic vaccine development

•Lead the development, implementation and review of guidelines and preferred product characteristics (PPCs) for domestic vaccine candidates

•Ensure the development and maintenance of databases on vaccine candidates, clinical trials and vaccine research and development activities

•Oversee the review and dissemination of research and clinical trial results to support informed decision-making on vaccine candidates

•Build and maintain strategic relationships with government institution, public and private sector partners, development partners and other stakeholders both locally and internationally

•Ensure the preparation of annual work plans, budgets and periodic reports of the Directorate

•Oversee the implementation of the performance management system within the directorate.

Qualification Required & Experience

•A minimum of a master’s degree in Life Sciences, Bio-manufacturing, Public Health or any other related discipline from an accredited tertiary institution

•Must be a member of a relevant and recognised health professional body

•A minimum of 10 years post-Bachelor’s relevant work experience, 5 years of which must be at a senior management level in a reputable institution
