Duties
The Political Specialist is the primary Locally Employed Staff (LE Staff) Embassy liaison with Nigerien national and local officials on political and human rights issues. He will advise the Political Officer on points of contact in the Nigerien government, political parties, and civil society in the topical fields of government, political parties, democratic development, human rights, labor unions, judicial affairs, and Niger’s bilateral relationships.
Provides news briefings and analysis; drafts congressional and other reporting; maintains contacts files and arranges meetings; drafts memos and correspondence; prepares biographies and maintains a master biographies file; provides interpretation and translation as needed; and provides strategic input for achieving USG goals in Niger.

Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of five years of progressive responsibility in analyzing political, social, and economic issues, providing advice, writing analytical pieces, and providing linguistic interpretation.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Thorough and clear knowledge of USG priorities in Niger and Niger’s political history, political developments, current government form and leadership.
