Assistant Commissioner (Environment Support Services)

About the Position

The Public Service Commission is seeking a qualified Assistant Commissioner to support the Commissioner – Environment Support Services. The successful candidate will contribute to the formulation and implementation of Uganda's environmental policies, standards, and strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the initiation, formulation, and review of national policies, legislations, and strategies on the environment
• Support the development and setting of national standards for the environment sector
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of Local Governments, Parastatal Organizations (NEMA and NFA), NGOs, and the private sector
• Supervise and mobilize support and resources for environment management
• Coordinate, inspect, and monitor various actors in environment management for policy and legislative compliance
• Provide technical advice to Local Governments and other environmental stakeholders
• Coordinate and supervise national projects on environmental management
• Liaise with Regional and International Environmental Agencies
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Commissioner

Minimum Qualifications

• Ugandan citizenship
• Honours Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Water Sciences
• Master's Degree in Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related water discipline from a recognized university or institution
• Registration with the Uganda Engineers' Registration Board (required for engineering degree holders)
• A Post Graduate Diploma in Management or Administration is advantageous
