Position Overview
The Principal Water Officer will report to the Assistant Commissioner for International and Transboundary Water Affairs and will be responsible for advancing Uganda's interests in transboundary water management and cooperation.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the development and review of national policies on transboundary water resources to maximize Uganda's benefits
- Review and update national strategic plans for development, conservation, and management of transboundary waters in alignment with national policy
- Maintain custody and safeguard transboundary water protocols and agreements to which Uganda is a party
- Participate in the implementation of transboundary policies and agreements within Uganda, coordinating harmonization between transboundary and national water policies and plans
- Coordinate Uganda's participation in sourcing funds and implementing cooperative development of transboundary water projects
- Oversee the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of transboundary water resource projects
- Coordinate Uganda's participation in conflict resolution and negotiations regarding the sharing of benefits and use of transboundary water resources
- Direct the development, operation, and maintenance of decision support tools and information databases on transboundary water systems
- Facilitate the acquisition and exchange of water resources data and information with other riparian countries
- Coordinate national assessments on the potential impacts of proposed developments on transboundary waters
