Assistant Commissioner (Water Resources Monitoring And Assessment)

About the Role

This position is responsible to the Commissioner – Water Resources Management and focuses on advancing water resources monitoring and assessment initiatives within Uganda.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development of policies and plans for water resources and land use monitoring and assessment
• Participate in the review and updating of national strategic plans for water resources monitoring and assessment
• Support the operation, development and maintenance of water quantity monitoring networks
• Support the development and implementation of water resources and land use guidelines in the sector
• Support research and the development of area-based water resources management plans
• Support the assessment of water resources across the country
• Participate in the initiation and management of mitigation plans, guidelines and measures against disasters (floods and droughts)
• Lead the management and dissemination of water resources information
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Ugandan citizenship
• Honours Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, or related Water Sciences from a recognized university or institution
• Master's Degree in Water Engineering from a recognized university or institution
• For Engineers: registration with the Uganda Engineers' Registration Board

Preferred Qualifications

• Post Graduate Diploma in Management or Administration

Required Experience

• Minimum of nine (9) years of relevant working experience
• At least three (3) years of experience at the Principal Water Officer level
