Senior Driller and Exploration Specialist

Job Purpose

To plan, supervise, and execute advanced drilling campaigns (diamond core, RC, auger) for mineral exploration, ensuring high core recovery, sample integrity, and adherence to geological targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Design drill hole layouts based on geological targets, structural models, and topographical constraints
• Supervise drilling contractors and crews, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and geotechnical standards
• Monitor drilling parameters, core orientation, deviation surveys, and recovery rates
• Perform on-site geological logging, sampling, and QA/QC (standards, blanks, duplicates)
• Troubleshoot drilling problems (lost tools, poor ground, stuck rods, water ingress)
• Manage drill consumables inventory, site access, and logistics (fuel, water, core transport)
• Produce daily and weekly exploration reports with recommendations for hole deepening or deviations

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Geology, Geotechnics, or Drilling Engineering (or equivalent trade qualification with extensive field experience)
• Valid blasting/flagger/first aid certificates as required

Experience

• 10+ years of drilling experience, with at least 5 years as a senior driller or drilling supervisor
• Experience in remote campaigns and multiple drilling methods (core, RC, sonic, reverse circulation)

Key Competencies

• Deep knowledge of drill rig mechanics and hydraulics
• Ability to read structural geology and adapt drill plans in real time
• Strong leadership in remote, high-pressure environments
