Chief Technical Mine Manager

Job Purpose

To oversee all technical disciplines within the mining operation, including mine planning, geology, geotechnical engineering, survey, and ventilation, ensuring safe, efficient, and optimized extraction.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate technical teams (planning, geologists, rock mechanics, surveyors) to deliver short- and long-term mine plans
• Ensure reserve and resource models are current and compliant with reporting codes (JORC, NI 43-101, SAMREC)
• Optimize mine design, stope sequencing, and equipment utilization to maximize NPV
• Manage technical budgets, capital projects, and technology implementation (e.g., fleet management systems, mine optimization software)
• Ensure compliance with ground control, ventilation, and geotechnical standards
• Represent technical functions at monthly production and strategic meetings
• Develop technical talent and succession plans

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering (postgraduate qualification preferred)
• Professional engineer status (P.Eng., CEng, or equivalent)

Required Experience

• 15+ years in underground or open-pit mining operations
• At least 7 years in technical management
• Proven experience in both planning and operational roles

Key Competencies

• Mastery of mine planning software (Deswik, Surpac, Datamine, Vulcan, or MineSight)
• Strategic thinking and financial acumen (NPV, IRR, sensitivity analysis)
• Strong incident investigation and risk assessment skills
