Senior Environment Officer

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Environment Officer to join our expanding team at the Public Service Commission. This is a full-time position based in Kampala, Uganda, reporting to the Principal Environment Officer – Environment Support Services.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the initiation, formulation, and review of national policies, legislations, and strategies on the environment
• Support the development and setting of national standards for the environment sector
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of Local Governments, Parastatal Organizations (NEMA and NFA), NGOs, and the private sector
• Supervise and mobilize support and resources for environment management
• Coordinate, inspect, monitor, and evaluate the performance of various actors in environment management for compliance with policies, legislations, standards, strategies, and plans
• Provide technical advice to Local Governments and other stakeholders
• Coordinate and supervise national projects on environmental management
• Liaise with Regional and International Environmental Agencies
• Perform any other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Honours Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related environmental field from a recognized University or Institution
• Ugandan nationality
• Registration with the Uganda Engineers' Registration Board (where applicable)

Preferred Qualifications

• Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related field

Experience Required

• Minimum of three (3) years of relevant working experience
